Brown Cup - Rutstroemia firma

Description

A relatively large (up to 1.5 cm) yellowish-brown Rutstroemia, with a short stalk that darkens at the base.  Initially cup-shaped, it expands and flattens.  The outside of the cup is the same colour as inside, and the margin of the cup is slightly crenulate.

Habitat

On dead and rotting wood, often oak, but also other deciduous trees

Autumn to early winter.
