Brachycentrus subnubilus
Sometimes called The Grannom. This species is the only member of the Brachycentridae family to occur in Britain. The male is smaller than the female with a forewing length of 7 to 9 mm, the female having a forewing length of 10 to 14 mm. It is a rather greyish brown with a patterning of creamy yellowish spots on the wing.
Prefers flowing water, often fast flowing rivers and streams.
March to June or July.
Fairly widespread in England, Wales and mainland Scotland, though possibly declining in some rivers in southern England. The NBN map shows a westerly and northern distribution.
Uncommon in Leicestershire and Rutland. First recorded as an adut in VC55 in 2009, and not recorded again until the Sapcote record of 2013.
