Bledius dissimilis
A small (3.5 to 4 mm) rove beetle. The short elytra and legs are orange.
Unless identified by a recognised expert, a photo is required and the specimen should be examined with a microscope. In the comments box, state the key or ID method used and describe the size and identifying characters.
Possibly associated with sand and shingle along river banks, but also attracted to light.
Peak season is difficult to determine due to lack of records, but the records we are aware of were from July and August.
The lack of records suggests that this is quite an uncommon beetle in Britain, but it may well be under recorded due to its small size and the difficulty of identification.
Rare or rarely recorded in Leicestershire and Rutland, the Sapcote record of 24th June 2019 may be only the second record for VC55.
