Occupies habitats (especially suburban) where ornamental varieties of certain conifers abound.

When to see it

It flies from mid September to November.

Life History

The larvae feed on Cypress, especially Lawson's Cypress and Leyland Cypress, consuming mainly the flowers.

UK Status

A recent colonist, being first discovered on the Isle of Wight in 1951, the species has spread rapidly northwards and is now found fairly commonly throughout much of England, with records from as far north as Cumbria. In a recent survey to determine the status of all macro moths in Britain this species was classified as common.

Very common in Leicestershire and Rutland. L&R Moth Group status = A (common and resident)
