Black-clouded Longhorn Beetle agg. - Leiopus nebulosus agg.
In recent years Leiopus nebulosus has been split into two sibling species - namely Leiopus nebulosus and Leiopus linnei, which are best separated by examination of the genitalia. We have therefore treated the records below as an aggregate as it has not been possible to identify which of the species pair they are. All records should be recorded as an aggregate unless the necessary genitalia examination has been carried out by someone with suitable expertise. The common name of this small longhorn beetle (about 1 cm) derives from the dark patterning on the pale buff background of the elytra.
Around Oak, Alder and Lime.
Summer and autumn.
Associated with various broadleaved trees including Oak, Alder and Lime.
Widespread and fairly frequent in Britain.
Occasional in Leicestershire and Rutland. There were a total of 67 VC55 records for this species up to March 2015.
