Autumn Stonecrop - Hylotelephium 'Herbstfreude'

One of the taller stonecrops with succulent stems and leaves (which are mostly alternate). The flowers open pink and mature to a deeper red. Stamens 0 to 2 mm, much shorter than the suberect petals.

Several similar species, hybrids and varieties are commonly grown in gardens, and may persist as garden throw-outs.

Very short or no stamens; most leaves alternate, with narrowly cuneate base.

A specimen including leaves, flowers and whole stem is needed to verify 

Usually found as an escape from cultivation, often close to habitation.

Flowers August into November.

Perennial.

True status of this plant in the wild in Britain is difficult to determine due to lack of records, but from the few records available it seems to be quite widely scattered across the country.

Rare or under recorded in the wild in Leicestershire and Rutland. It was not recorded in the 1979 Flora survey of Leicestershire.
