Agonopterix ciliella
Almost identical to the commoner Agonopterix heracliana.
Agonopterix ciliella can be distinguished from Agonopterix heracliana by the five brownish lines in the cilia near the base of the hindwing. Agonopterix heracliana only has one.
All records should be supported by an image of the hindwing showing the lines in the cilia near the base of the hindwing. The specimen should be retained until the County Recorder has accepted the record.
Any well vegetated areas, especially where umbellifers are present.
Flying at night in suitable weather from August to May, and sometimes coming to light.

Widespread throughout Britain. In the Butterfly Conservation's Microlepidoptera Report 2011 this species was classified as common.
Occasional (although possibly under recorded due to difficulty of identification) in Leicestershire and Rutland. L&R Moth Group status = C (very scarce resident or rare migrant).
