Aceria populi
The mite Aceria populi causes galls in the buds of Aspen and Black Poplar. They take the form of irregular, warty, cauliflower-like growths usually over 10 mm across, soft and downy at first, and grey, yellow or reddish; later becoming harder and darker in colour; no internal chamber.
Where Aspen and Black Poplar occur.
May persist and be visible all year round.
Poorly recorded in Britain but probably locally fairly frequent.
Status in Leicestershire and Rutland not known.
