Strophosoma nebulosum
A brown weevil with protruding eyes that are characteristic of this genus. The appearance may change in worn specimens which may look blacker and even slightly iridescent.
Unless identified by a recognised expert, photographic evidence is required and the specimen should be examined with a microscope. In the comments box, state the key or ID method used. Found on a wide range of low-growing plants.
Best late spring and summer.
Quite widespread in England and Wales but not generally abundant.
Occasional in Leicestershire and Rutland.
