Golden Bootleg - Phaeolepiota aurea

Description

A large golden fungus, wih a dry granular surface.  The veil often persists as a 'skirt' of veil fragments hanging from the margins.   The spore-print is light golden-brown

Similar Species

The Spectacular Rustgill Gymnopilus junoninus may look similar, but lacks the grainy surface and has much darker spores

Habitat

Saprobic, found in groups beneath deciduous and coniferous trees on disturbed ground.
