Chyliza leptogaster
Description
3mm. A largely black fly with long yellow legs and a slim abdomen (Greek: leptos = slender, gaster = belly).
ID checklist (your specimen should have all of these features)
- anal cell shorter than the basal cell above it
- face concave
- arista with pubescence
- femora yellow without black rings
- Male with anteroventral row of small black projecting spines on front tibia
- Female with 2nd antennal joint brownish above and upper of humeri usually all black
Habitat
Associated with grassy or wooded environments.
When to see it
May-September

Reasonably common in the south.
