Sapcote Parish runs from Freeholt Wood near the M69 Island to the Old Fosse Road. The River Soar is only a stream as it passes through our Parish. The Parish also has a couple of water filled granite quarries typical of this part of Leicestershire.

If you use the iRecord app to submit records to NatureSpot, be aware that iRecord are upgrading the app and this may cause the NatureSpot 'activity' to be dropped. The general NatureSpot activity is also now missing so we are liaising with iRecord to get this fixed asap. Apologies for any frustration that this is causing!

Surprising little is known about many of the species that live in the county. What is its distribution? How common or rare is it? Are these changing over time? These are vital questions which NatureSpot, with your support, can help to answer. All the data collected is shared to help inform conservation decision-making.

A new moth 'lured' to Sapcote

moth

An impressive new moth species has been added to the Sapcote list with the aid of a pheromone lure.  The lure replicates the scent given off by the female Emperor Moth - and a male arrived within 25 minutes of the lure being deployed in Harecroft Crescent on 22nd April 2023.

Dark Crimson Underwing

A rare migrant moth - the Dark Crimson Underwing was recorded for the first time in Leicestershire and Rutland when it turned up in a garden trap at Morely Road in Sapcote on 26th August 2019. It is quite a large and noticeable species, although there are others that look quite similar.  It was checked out by the County Recorder for moths and accepted as a first record for our area.
