Double Dart - Graphiphora augur

Description

Wingspan 35 to 42 mm. The markings may vary slightly but are usually sufficient to enable the species to be identified.

It inhabits woodland, bushy places and grassy areas.

When to see it

Flies in a single generation during June and July.

Life History

The larvae feed nocturnally on a number of trees and shrubs, including hawthorn and blackthorn.

UK Status

A locally widespread species over much of Britain, In a recent survey to determine the status of all macro moths in Britain this species was classified as common.

VC55 Status

Fairly common in Leicestershire and Rutland. L&R Moth Group status = A (common and resident).
