Neriene clathrata

The abdominal markings often vary in intensity, but usually show some mottling and often a whitish area towards the head.

The species is found in a wide range of habitats including grassland, heathland, marshes, scrub, woodland and gardens where it occurs on the ground in litter, vegetation and in low undergrowth.

Adults of both sexes have been recorded throughout the year, with peaks from spring to mid-summer and in autumn.

Makes a sheet web.

The species is widespread and fairly frequent in much of Britain, becoming scattered and absent in northern Scotland.

Fairly frequent in Leicestershire and Rutland.
