Wild places in this parish

The parish surrounds the large village of Barwell, with a sizeable population of nearly 9,000. A brook running through the parish is the River Tweed - a tributary of the the River Sence.

Parish Update

Barwell is participating in the Leicestershire verges biodiversity project and has taken on the management of a verge on Stapleton Lane in order to improve its value for wildlife. Read more on the Wild Place page for this verge.

Cinnamon Bug

Corizus

This handsome bug used to be rare and restricted to mainly coastal areas in the south, but in recent years has become relatively common in Leicestershire. Like all 'true bugs' it has piercing mouthpart used to feed on plants. It has been recorded from the centre of Barwell.
