That big flowered convolvulus which clambers over the hedgerows and is such a pain to eradicate from the garden is actually two species. (Click title for more)

Calystegia sepium is the native bindweed of country hedgerows. Calystegia sylvaticum is an alien introduced from Spain into town gardens, so as you'd expect this one predominates in urban areas. Villages on the outskirts of towns are good places to see both species in close proximity. Sepium is growing besdide the path next to College Garth, a few yards further on sylvatica is growing along the Zouch road. they're actually quite easy to tell apart. Sepium has smaller flowers and the bracteoles at the base of the flower don't overlap. The larger flowered sylvatica has overlapping bracteoles.
