Knighton Wild AGM & Member Talks
End time
Knighton Parish Centre, Church Lane, Knighton LE2 3WG.
The AGM is when we report on the last year’s activities and finances and elect a committee for the coming year. We usually try to get the business over quickly and move on to talks. This year, four of our members will be talking about aspects of wildlife in Knighton that are of interest to them.
- Simon Bennett will talk about interesting records of sightings that we have had on NatureSpot in the last year.
- Nicky Thompson will talk about Hoverflies in Knighton – what she has found and what you might expect to see.
- Bev Hart will talk about Hedgehogs and the local Hedgehog Rescue activities.
- Alan Cann will talk about Tiny Assassins - the Ecological Importance of Parasitoid Wasps: Parasitoid wasps are tiny, solitary insects that lay their eggs inside other insects, using them as living hosts for their developing larvae. They are nature’s most important pest management system, maintaining ecological balance across both natural and agricultural environments. Parasitoid wasps maintain species diversity and food web stability. They prevent herbivore species from dominating vegetation, ensuring plants remain healthy and diverse. This cascading effect supports entire food webs, from pollinators to predators. Their presence reduces the need for pesticide applications in agriculture, lowering costs and environmental impact while promoting sustainable farming. Parasitoid wasps are ecosystem engineers, quietly regulating the balance of nature.
We look forward to seeing you on 24th June. Admission Free.
