This open space was established in 2022 as part of the adjacent housing development. As well as the children's playground and mown grass areas there is a pond/wetland created for storm water storage, an area of rough grassland bordered by Blackthorn scrub.
Storm drainage areas provide excellent habitat for a wide range of wetland species. Reedmace and Hard Rush dominate the pond area and with water beetles in the standing water. The rough grassland is dominated by robust grass species such as Cock'sfoot, providing good cover for ground-dwelling invertebrates. The Blackthorn scrub offers a stunning backdrop in Spring, attracting many bees and other nectar-feeding insects.
