LROS – Dave Cohen – Willow Tree Fen and the Return of Common Cranes to Lincolnshire
St. Anne's Church Hall, Letchworth Road, Leicester LE3 6FN & on Zoom
David and Susanne Cohen have been members of LROS for over forty years and served on the committee in the 1980’s and 1990’s, fulfilling a variety of roles during this time, before moving to Lincolnshire in 1996. Shortly after retiring, David joined the Board of Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust as Treasurer in 2009, becoming Chair of Trustees in 2016, before stepping down in 2021. They joined the Crane Watch Team in 2020, when Common Cranes started to breed in the fens and they have been involved ever since. David and Susanne have travelled widely in search of birds over the years but still enjoy their weekly session with the Cranes in the south of their adopted county. During lockdown in 2020, Common Cranes returned to breed in the Lincolnshire Fens after an absence of four hundred years. This talk traces the history of Cranes in the U K and their return to Willow Tree Fen, a reserve owned and managed by the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust.
