Dacne bipustulata

Description

A very small (3mm) beetle.  The elytra are dark and the shoulder of each elytrum has a reddish spot. The antennae end abruptly in a club shape.

Habitat

Found in well wooded habitats where it is associated with bracket fungi on a range of broadleaf trees.

When to see it

Usually recorded between early spring and autumn.

Life History

Adults spend the winter under bark or amongst detritus in holes and crevices of trees.

UK Status

Fairly frequent in England, other than in the west country. It is also reasonably widespread in Wales.

VC55 Status

Quite frequent in Leicestershire & Rutland.
