Tanysphyrus lemnae

Description

1.2-1.9mm. This tiny weevil is closely associated with duckweeds (Lemna sp.). Generally dark with patches of pale scales on the thorax, abdomen and femora. The rostrum is a similar length to the pronotum. Key features are the tarsal segments: the third has wide lobes and the end segment barely protrudes giving a truncate appearance.

Similar Species

Tanysphyrus atra is broadly similar but has only been found at one site in Eastern England. This species lacks a subapical tooth on the inner margin of the pro-tibia.
