Description

Occurring in woodland and peat bogs.

When to see it

The adults fly from dusk onwards in June and July, and are attracted to light.

Life History

The main foodplant of the larvae is bilberry.

UK Status

This species is locally distributed in the south and west of England, and in Wales and southern Ireland. In a recent survey to determine the status of all macro moths in Britain this species was classified as local.

VC55 Status

It appears to be uncommon in Leicestershire and Rutland, where there are few records. L&R Moth Group status = D (rare or rarely recorded).
