The village and parish of Shearsby lies in the south of Leicestershire, approximately 9 miles from Leicester city. It was referred to in the Domesday Book and is probably named after a a farm or small settlement. It is surrounded by agricultural land, a mixture of pasture and arable. Nearby is the Shearsby Bath - developed in the early 19th century as a spa because of a natural spring that is rich in minerals and was believed to bring benefit to all manner of ailments.

Southern Hawker Dragonfly

This large, beautiful dragonfly was seen in a Shearsby garden. Southern Hawkers can be identified by the two large yellow spots (looking like headlights) on the body behind the head.
