Climate change

Leicestershire & Rutland Entomological Society have published a report looking at the extent of climate change in Leicestershire over the last 60 years. More...

The report, authored by LRES member Paul Palmer, finds that:

  • The number of air frost days per year are declining.
  • Annual rainfall is increasing.
  • Annual maximum temperature is rising.
  • Annual minimum temperature is increasing at a faster rate than maximum temperature.
  • While they are real, all long term trends are much smaller than the year-to-year natural variability in Leicestershire weather.
  • Does this affect our wildlife? Records from moth trapping show that many species are changing their flight times. So, the answer to the question is: Probably yes.
