Wild places in this area
Castle Ward is an electoral area in the south east of Leicester, comprising part of the city centre, Clarendon Park, Blackfriars and Southfields. The University of Leicester is also principally located within the ward. Two large green spaces lie within the ward: Victoria Park and Welford Road Cemetery (see Wild Places). The latter is a designated Local Wildlife Site with much biodiversity interest, as well as being an important historical site.

Golden-shelled Slug
The Golden-shelled Slug was thought to be extinct in Leicester but then it turned up in Welford Road Cemetery, 25 years after the last record in the county.
