Waltham on the Wolds and Thorpe Arnold parish is to the north-east of Leicestershire in Melton District. Outside of the two villages there's a mix of pasture, arable farmland and small areas of woodland and a small stream flows south west through the parish before joining the River Eye in Melton Mowbray. A large golf course and Twin Lakes amusement park lie within the parish and Stonesby Quarry, a former limestone quarry and now a nature reserve managed by Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust, is just outside the boundary with Sproxton parish.

Welcome to our parish page

WOTWATA stands for Waltham on the Wolds and Thorpe Arnold. This WOTWATA NatureSpot page gives local residents the opportunity to find out about, and contribute to our knowledge of, the wildlife in our parish. Just click on the headers of these news stories to read more.

Recording wildlife in WOTWATA

We would like more wildlife observations from the parish. So, if you've seen a species you recognise, from a Blue Tit to a Bluebell, click on the header to find out what to do.

Surprising little is known about many of the species that live in the county. What is its distribution? How common or rare is it? Are these changing over time? These are vital questions which NatureSpot, with your support, can help to answer. All the data collected is shared to help inform conservation decision-making.

Early Purple Orchid

Orchids are not common in most of Leicestershire so it is a treat to find them in the parish. This one was spotted on Moor Leas Lane.
