Bembidion quadrimaculatum

A small beetle with dark brown or almost black studded elytra marked with four pale yellow or orangey spots. Antennnae and femora mid-brown not black, apical part of antennae darker than distal part. 

Unlike similar members of the family it is found in drier areas, including gardens, as well as damper habitats.

All year but best spring to late summer.

Frequent and widespread in England and Wales, less well recorded elsewhere in Britain.

Fairly common in Leicestershire and Rutland. There were a total of 172 VC55 records for this species up to March 2015.
