Getting There

The site occupied the northern two thirds of Pickworth Road, which connects the villages of Pickworth and Great Casterton. Pickworth can be accessed directly from the A1, down a small signposted lane off the sliproad. Pickworth Lane is then a right turning to the east of the village.

Pickworth Lane can also be accessed from the A1 via Great Casterton.

Parking may be possible by the verge, but please be mindful of traffic and private land. Alternatively, limited roadside parking is available in Pickworth village.

Description

Designated a Local Wildlife Site in 2006, the Pickworth Road North verge is approximately 2.8 km long on both sides of the road, varying between 1-6 metres wide. The main habitat is mesotrophic grassland.

Wildlife Highlights

Recorded species include: Glaucous Sedge, Knapweed, Lady’s Bedstraw, Field Scabious, Meadow Vetchling, Autumn Hawkbit, Birdsfoot-trefoil, Rest-harrow, Meadow Buttercup, Red Clover, Agrimony, and Meadowsweet.
