Biting Stonecrop - Sedum acre

Low, hairless plant forming yellowish green mats, the pale green shoots having a peppery taste. Leaves 3 to 6 mm oval-cylindrical. Flowers bright yellow, 10 to 12 mm five parted in small clusters.

Sedum sexangulare is similar, but has not been recorded in VC55; it has cylindrical leaves, not ovoid.

Roadsides, footpaths and stony places, old walls.

May to July.

Perennial and evergreen - Sometimes a garden escape but also established as a roadside plant in parts of our area.

Fairly frequent in Britain.

Fairly frequent in Leicestershire and Rutland. In the 1979 Flora survey of Leicestershire it was found in 135 of the 617 tetrads.
