Phytoptus tetratrichus

Description

The galls caused by the gall mite Phytoptus tetratrichus occur on the leaves of some species of Lime and take the form of a tight, usually downward, roll on the edge of the leaf 1 to 2 mm wide. It may be short or long and may even affect the whole leaf margin.  Inside it is hairy and contains mites. The gall is recorded more often than the adult.

Similar Species

Dasineura tiliae and D thomasiana (gall-midges) cause looser rolls of the leaf edges, usually upwards, on lime
