Julus scandinavius

Description

This relatively large millipede is dark brown to black with longitudinal striations on each segment. It has a reduced and modified first pair of legs.

Similar Species

Most likely to be confused with Tachypodoiulus niger which has a similar pointed telson but without the terminal hook.

  • dark brown to black with pale legs
  • straight, pointed telson with a minute downward hook at the tip
  • males have a tiny first pair of legs (difficult to see) and the second pair have a distinct long flattened projection.
