Description

Wingspan 17 mm. The adult is marked with bluish, russet and white, and has several raised tufts of scales on the dorsum.

Occurring in woodland and marshy areas where the larval foodplant Rosebay Willowherb is present.

When to see it

The adult flight time is June and July, and the species is attracted to light.

Life History

The larval foodplant is Rosebay Willowherb. The larval feeding can often be quite noticeable, as the larva spins together terminal leaves of the foodplant, forming an untidy spinning. It feeds within, eating down into the stem.

UK Status

Widespread but rather local in Britain. In the Butterfly Conservation's Microlepidoptera Report 2011 this species was classified as local.

VC55 Status

It appears to be uncommon in Leicestershire and Rutland, where there are few records. L&R Moth Group status = D (rare or rarely recorded).
