Coleophora siccifolia
Grey Birch case-bearer
Wingspan 13 or 14 mm. A grey species often quite glossy looking in suitable light, sometimes with a slight ochreous tinge.
Hedgerows, and open country where the larval foodplants occur.
May to July – it is one of the earliest coleophorids to emerge.
Larva mines leaves of Birch, Hawthorn, Apple and Rowan, living within a movable case, over-wintering twice.
Quite a scarce and local species in Britain. In the Butterfly Conservation's Microlepidoptera Report 2011 this species was classified as Nationally Scarce B.
It appears to be uncommon in Leicestershire and Rutland, where there are few records. L&R Moth Group status = D (rare or rarely recorded).
