Description

Market Bosworth Country Park is largely an open parkland landscape with mature specimen trees interspersed with small areas of woodland.  The park also includes a lake (the Bow Pool) and a series of ponds (the ‘stew’ ponds – originally created by local monks for the rearing of fish).

This parkland habitat is now an uncommon landscape type in the ever changing English countryside.  Its specimen trees, grassland, woodlands and water areas provide varied and diverse habitats for a wide range of insect, plant and animal species. The arboretum includes Coast Redwoods, Himalayan Birch trees (showing their distinct white bark) and Japanese Maples which display vivid, fiery colours in the autumn months.

Wildlife Highlights

The wildflower meadows within the parkland attract a wide range of insects in the spring and summer months. Mammals such as foxes and brown hares are commonly seen.

The wooded areas of the park  support a range of native tree species. There is a bird feeding station where species such as great spotted woodpeckers and nuthatches are regular visitors.
