Groby is a large parish with over 7,000 residents. It lies just a few miles north-west of Leicester and has a significant history. Groby Pool (see Wild Places) is a SSSI within the parish, offering excellent habitat for a variety of water birds. Sheet Hedges Wood, another SSSI, is managed by Leicestershire County Council lies just outside the parish and has a number of footpaths through it providing good access.

Mr Davies moved to Groby in 1979 and wrote this interesting article - The Birds of Groby - about the birds seen around the village at that time - including a few surprises!
