Foxton lies in the south-east of Leicestershire. The village is thought to have been founded in Saxon times. Today it is best known because of the nearby Foxton Locks and former Inclined Plane, built with the Grand Union Canal in the late eighteenth century.
The parish is well-wooded and crossed, west to east, by a brook. The Welland Valley lies to the south-east.
The Softwell Lane Nature Reserve is located to the north-west of the village alongside the brook. The site includes a pond and mature trees and was bequeathed to the village by Derek Lewin.
