Ullesthorpe lies in the south of Leicestershire, near to the border. It has a long history with both prehistoric and Roman archaeological finds from the area. The name Ullesthorpe was given by the Danes.

Parish Update

Ullesthorpe has joined the Leicestershire verge biodiversity project and has taken on the management of two verges at the eastern and western ends of the village. To find out more, see the Wild Place page links above.

Green Hairstreak

Green Hairstreak

The Green Hairstreak is an uncommon butterfly in Leicestershire but this one was found in Ullesthorpe. It is the only green butterfly in Britain and the only one to overwinter as a chrysalis. The caterpillars feed on Gorse, Dogwood, Broom and a few other plants.
