Wild places in this area
Fleckney village is in southern Leicestershire within the district of Harborough. It was mentioned in the Domesday Book in 1086 but has only relatively recently, in the 19th century, that it expanded in size, mainly related to the brickworks and hosiery industries. The village sits amongst gently rolling hills in a rural landscape. The Grand Union Canal runs through the eastern side of the parish. The village pond was originally a clay pit dug for brickworks. It runs into the Fleckney Brook which joins the River Sence.
Parish Update
Fleckney has joined the verge biodiversity project and is working with NatureSpot and the County Council to improve a verge on The Meer. This verge will be left unmown during the summer and will be surveyed to identify the wildflowers found there. Read more on our Wild Place page for this site.

22 Spot Ladybird
Did you know there are over 50 species of ladybirds in Britain? The bright yellow 22 Spot Ladybird is distinctive and common. It feeds on mildew (not aphids) and can be found on plants such as Hogweed, particularly later in the summer. This one was found in Fleckney near to Millennium Wood.
