The Nature Garden is off Long Furrow, East Goscote, Leicester LE7 3ST. Park at the main car park next to The Plough pub. Cross the road and look for a narrow footpath to the left of 233 Long Furrow. It looks as if you are going into someone’s back garden but it leads directly into The Nature Garden. The Arriva 5 and 5A buses from Leicester and Melton bring you to within a short walk.

The Nature Garden occupies a small pocket of fairly level grassy land of about 500 m2 surrounded by houses. It appears to have been ‘left over’ at the end of the initial development of East Goscote. East Goscote is a modern village developed in the 1960s by Jelson Homes on the site of a WWII munitions factory. Recent research indicates that the plot might have been the site of a building dating from WWII which was used during the construction and then removed. The village was the first new parish in Leicestershire after the Domesday Book being created out of parts of Queniborough, Rearsby and Ratcliffe on the Wreake parishes.
Following the initial development, the Nature Garden site passed to Charnwood Borough Council and was later purchased by East Goscote Parish Council for £1 along with another similar site. They are held as open spaces for the benefit of the public.
The aim is to develop the central grassy area into a wildflower meadow over time and to manage the site as a whole in favour of improved biodiversity. A small area is allocated to an Incredible Edibles ( www.incredibleedible.org.uk ) project using half whiskey barrel planters.
