The Birds and Wildlife of Costa Rica

This tiny neotropical country in Central America has a huge range and diversity of wildlife, and birds are no exception, with more than 920 species recorded. A wide range of habitats from coastal mangroves, swamps and beaches, through dry, rain and mist forests into mountains and paramo is a major reason for the diversity. This plus a very wide climate change from sea level to the high volcanic divide and the influence of both the Pacific and Caribbean coasts influences an incredible population of both resident, endemic and migrant bird species.
