Stretton Wood
Selected Wild Place / Other Wild Places / Public Rights of Way / VC55 boundary
The public footpath can be accessed from Stocken Hall Road or through Stretton Lakes.
The public footpath leading through the wood can be accessed directly from Stocken Hall Road and is sign-posted. By car, exit into Stretton from the A1 onto Clipsham Road, and fairly quickly turn left onto Stocken Hall Road. The entrance to the footpath is on the right. There is limited parking in the small residential area past the entrance to the footpath - please bear in mind the privacy of residents. It may also be possible to park at Stretton Lakes and access the wood from the opposite side, but this may be private-access only. The easiest option may be to park in Stretton village and walk up the road, which is approximately a 15-minute walk.
Stretton village is also served by the CallConnect 4R (Stamford and Rutland) and Mark Bland Travel 184 (Colsterworth - Stamford) bus services.

Stretton Wood (30.75 ha/75.98 acres) lies North of the small villages of Stretton and Clipsham and borders Stretton Lakes and George Henry Wood. Public footpaths run throughout. It is ancient woodland on Glacial Boulder Clay, but was cleared and planted with conifers in the early 1960s.
The wood once had a rich flora, with species such as Wild Service-tree Sorbus torminalis, Sweet Woodruff Galium odoratum, Aspen Populus tremula and Early-purple Orchid Orchis mascula all frequent. Rarer plants included Wood Spurge Euphorbia amygdaloides and Orpine Sedum telephium.
