Getting There

 

By Car take the signposted Egleton-Hambleton turn off the A606 Oakham-Stamford road about a mile east of Oakham. Continue to Hambleton and turn immediately right after the church, carry on down the hill to the end of the road. There is limited parking on the left at this point, do not block access to the private drives beyond. Proceed on foot over the cattle grid on the left hand track and view the reservoir  from here or along the Hambleton Peninsula cycle track which passes through this site, please see:

Description

Panoramic views of the South Arm of Rutland Water are available from the promontory at Old Hall, Hambleton. Between autumn to spring many rare bird species have been recorded from this site. A scope is essential as most birds are viewed at some distance. On sunny days lighting is best in the mornings.

Wildlife Highlights

In winter months rare grebes, sea ducks especially Scaup, divers and winter swans. Occasional waders at the water's edge. Up to date information can be found at  http://www.lros.org.uk/News.htm
