Limotettix striola
Length 3.5 to 5.0 mm. A greenish-yellow species which has a dark black band running across the vertex between the eyes. In front of this there is a pale stripe which joins the ocelli at least. In males the anterior of the pronotum often has a few dark marks, as does the base of the scutellum.
In the much rarer Limotettix atricapillus the pale stripe on the vertex is much shorter and less distinct (does not join the ocelli); the vertex is also more rounded.
Can only be identified by examination of internal genital structure.
Marshy habitats (both freshwater and saltmarshes) and associated with sedges such as spike-rush.
June to September.
Widespread, and can be locally common in Britain.
Rare, or rarely recorded in Leicestershire and Rutland.
