Halesus digitatus

Length 17 to 23 mm. A fairly large caddis with orangey brown wings that have a speckled pattering in the forks between the veins. It is quite similar to H. radiatus, but the patterning does not form such distinctive pale streaks in digitatus (see ID Aids below).

Halesus radiatus

Prefers the shallow slow moving water of small streams and rivers.

Late August to November.

Larval case is constructed of debris and sand grains, usually without sticks.

Widespread and fairly frequent in Britain.

Fairly frequent in Leicestershire and Rutland.
